Overview

Marie Bourgeois (1870-1937) was a French chef who gained three Michelin stars from 1933 to 1937 for her restaurant in Priay, Ain region, France. Born in Villette-sur-Ain in 1870, she settled in a modest restaurant with her husband in Priay, located 60 kilometers northeast of Lyon, during the 1920s. In 1923, Bourgeois became the first woman to receive the award of the Club des Cent. Her culinary talents were further recognized when she won the first culinary prize in Paris in 1927. However, her most significant achievement came in 1933 when she received three Michelin stars, which she maintained for four consecutive years. Some of her best-known recipes included hot pie, fresh frogs, and the floating island with pink pralines. After her passing in 1937, her daughter took over the restaurant until 1951. Quite an impressive culinary legacy.
