Born in Derby to Sikh parents, Sat Bains started cooking from an early age. He credits Marco Pierre White’s autobiography “White Heat” as a significant source of inspiration. Sometimes, the most unexpected sparks ignite our passions!
Roux Scholarship Winner: In 1999, Bains won the prestigious Roux Scholarship, which allowed him to work in some of the best restaurants in London and even spend time in France honing his skills.
After his culinary adventures abroad, Bains returned to Nottingham. He was appointed head chef of Hotel des Clos, just outside the city center. In 2002, he became a partner, and the restaurant’s name changed to Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms. A year later, it achieved its first Michelin star, making it the first starred restaurant in Nottingham.
Bains also showcased his talent on the BBC show Great British Menu in 2007. His creativity and dedication to his craft shone through as he competed alongside other talented chefs.
Doodling Dishes: Interestingly, Bains has a passion for art. He doodles dishes as ideas, dreams about them, and then brings them to life in his kitchen. It’s like creating edible masterpieces
