Overview
Alain Ducasse, a name synonymous with gastronomic excellence, embodies culinary refinement and innovation. Born in France in 1956, Ducasse is not only a Michelin-starred chef, but also a mentor, entrepreneur, and ambassador of French cuisine.
Ducasse began his culinary journey in 1972 at the Pavillon Landais restaurant in Soustons, France. He further honed his skills at Michel Guérard’s restaurant in Eugénie-les-Bains and worked for Gaston Lenôtre during the summer months. His passion for Provençal cooking methods developed during his time at Moulin de Mougins under legendary chef Roger Vergé.
Michelin Stars: In 2012, Ducasse held an impressive 21 Michelin stars, making him the second-ranked chef worldwide in terms of total Michelin stars. Joël Robuchon had 31, and Gordon Ramsay had 17 at the time.
In 1980, Ducasse took over the kitchens at L’amandier in Mougins as his first position as head chef.
One year later, he assumed the role of head chef at La Terrasse in the Hôtel Juana in Juan-les-Pins.
In 1984, Ducasse was the sole survivor of a Piper Aztec aircraft crash that left him severely injured.
In 1986, he became the chef at the Hôtel de Paris in Monte Carlo, overseeing the hotel’s renowned restaurant, Le Louis XV.
In 1988, Ducasse expanded beyond restaurants and opened a twelve-bedroom country inn, La Bastide de Moustiers, in Provence.
On August 12, 1996, the Alain Ducasse restaurant opened in Le Parc – Sofitel Demeure Hôtels in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, receiving three Michelin stars just eight months after opening1.
